The initial inspection for fleas and bedbugs led me to be very optimistic about the service I could expect. The inspector said I would have to be out of the house 8-10 hours, so I left for work and the other occupants found other places to go for the night. When I got home, I found three windows open (in freezing temperatures in November) that I was not warned about. Paperwork left by the exterminators said "4 or more hours." The inspector said everything would be moved around so furniture could be thoroughly treated and beds encased. Nothing was moved, only mattresses and box springs were encased, pillows were not included, bagged items were not securely tied shut, furniture was barely sprayed at easy-to-reach areas (I could easily tell because of the dust from diatomaceous earth I had put down), and there is no evidence of spray in the basement, which should have been easy to spot; it left a film on the kitchen's vinyl flooring, but there is neither a film on the basement tile nor evidence of spray in the dust from the basement renovation. Granular insecticide was supposed to be put down outside and "dusting" behind shutters. I heard an exterminator walking the perimeter of the house and garage, obviously spraying, but there is not granular pesticide evident on the ground around the foundation. I just pressure washed the house a couple of weeks ago, so there is no "dusting" to be done to remove bee nests. The inspector told us to strip beds; the papers left behind said not to strip beds. The inspector said there would be heat treatment done, but they were here less than two and a half hours to do everything I was expecting, and it's hard to heat treat something with the windows open. I asked the inspector if we should steam clean the carpets before the treatment, but he assured me they would take care of all of that. Nothing was cleaned, so I can only hope that will be done at the end of the treatments.
Overall, I am unimpressed by the service for the price I am paying. The information given by the inspector and by the educational papers left behind are inconsistent. Not once did I see the exterminators don respirators or Tyveks or gloves that would indicate getting into a thorough job. If they aren't wearing PPE (personal protective equipment), either they are not using the chemicals they purport to use, or they don't care about their personal safety or about carrying insects from one job to the next.
