Pinellas Park, FL
I’ve struggled to write this review, because I have used this company, as have many of my friends and family members, for many years for routine pest control and rodent removal without any issues.
My issue occurred with my termite tenting experience. I was replacing some trim on a window, and noticed evidence of termite damage. I scheduled for JD smith to come out and evaluate, as I have been a long time customer and had no reason not to trust them. Inspector came out, said it was old damage and nothing to worry about. So I didn’t. Until 6 months later, after a windy storm, I found undeniable evidence of termites (piles of wings), things happen it’s Florida. I called them immediately and David was sent out. He advised tenting after reviewing the wings I saved for him to look at, he did not inspect anything else in or around my house. I own a home in Florida, this was not unexpected to happen at some point, I did think he would actually take a look around, but he didn’t. Again, I’ve trusted this company, and had no reasons for speculation. I signed the contract, and that’s where things went downhill. Not only did David make a very unprofessional and sexual remark about my profession (I’m a nurse), he made me feel very extremely uncomfortable in my own home; the contract was already signed and I didn’t want to jeopardize my safety, so I didn’t say anything, until after everything was completed and he did not have lock box access to my home. There was absolutely no communication provided during the weekend of my service. I was scheduled for tenting on a Friday, due to my overnight schedule I vacated my home Thursday (I work overnights, and have as long as I’ve used this company, they’ve always been great about scheduling around my sleeping hours.) I made other arrangements for my pets for the week. At 5pm Friday I noticed on my security cameras that no one had been by. I texted, waited, and then called David to find out what was happening. He said he did not have my number (strange because we had called each other and texted on several occasions beforehand), and there was a delay because of a storm (understandable, it’s Florida things happen.) This story was confirmed with the office staff, who did let me know that the subcontractor (that’s right, they won’t tell you that either, tenting is outsourced) rescheduled after 1pm, and David had called the office at 3pm to verify my number, and I still never received any information until I texted and called him myself. After finally making contact with David around 5:30pm he assured me everything else would be fine and he would call me Sunday evening to confirm when I could get back in my house. Shocker. 10am Monday I called him again, he wasn’t sure about the status of my property and would need to call the office to confirm if it was safe to enter my home again. I was cleared 9pm Sunday night by the subcontractor. My pets spent a week in boarding, and myself 3 extra unnecessary nights at a hotel because of the lack of communication. I did communicate my concerns with the office staff who assured me they would be addressed. I did receive a credit towards my quarterly services ($166 on a $83/quarter account.), for my “troubles.” When I received a phone call from David two days later there was no mention of any issues I brought forward, only that he needed his lock box back and would be by the following day to pick it up. I can only assume my concerns were not addressed with him. I dropped it off a week later to the office, 24 minutes drive time out of my way, because as expected he never picked it up. My neighbor approached me with concerns that the tent was not left on long enough (everything was secured around 4pm Saturday and removed 9am Sunday, quite a different time frame from the 72 hours that was discussed when I signed my contract) based off his experiences and him being right there to witness the entire process. They do offer a 1 year guarantee on tenting, so we’ll see. Dirty socks were left in my yard/plants (how? why?), the workers were shirtless (it’s hot, I get it, but what happened to professionalism?) my pool vacuum was knocked out of the skimmer hole when they dropped a ladder in the pool, they left various clamps and sprinkler mechanisms around my property, as well as tape on just about every corner of my roof. My neighbor asked if I could recommend JD smith to tent his house, and I had to say no. Tenting is stressful enough on its own, it’s not my first time going through this process (different address, different company), however there was absolutely no need for the inappropriate sexual comments, lack of communication, and hiding behind the office staff to apologize for the issues that they didn’t cause. |
